Cheek Implans

Cheek and Chin Implants

Throughout the ages in many cultures, high cheek bones and prominent chins have been considered a sign of strength. Many men as well as women wish to have a more angular and strong looking face. Now with a single surgery it is possible to insert a cheek or chin implant that can dramatically improve the harmony of your face. The best candidate for this surgery is an individual with a long narrow face or round face and flat cheek.

The surgery is usually performed our Clinic of Cosmetic Surgery outpatient surgical facility, under IV sedation. The day of surgery, you will be brought to the operating suite, the surgeon will answer any last questions you might have and he will take pictures and do some markings on your skin.

In the basic cheek implant procedure an incision is made inside the mouth between the upper gums and the cheek. The soft tissue is elevated creating a pocket over the cheek bone. An implant usually triangular in shape, is then inserted. Sometimes the tip of the implant close to the side of the face is fixed with temporary sutures going toward the scalp. The opening inside of the mouth is closed with absorbable suture.

Chewing may be difficult for about 2 weeks. Pain associated to the surgery is minimal to moderate and easily controlled with oral medication. Sometimes bruising around the eyes occurs, but begins to fade within a few days. Swelling can be present but usually decreases rapidly. Brushing the teeth is often difficult for several days. Complications associated with this surgery are rare; however there are inherent risks connected with every surgical procedure. Possible risks and complications should be thoroughly discussed with the physician prior to surgery. Patients can minimize complications by carefully following directions given by the physician.
